Speech sound problems can include articulation disorders and phonological process disorders. An Articulation disorder is a problem with making certain speech sounds. A Phonological process disorder is a pattern of sound errors.
Language disorder refers to a difficulty understanding and/or using language to express one’s ideas or thoughts. Your child may struggle to learn new words, speak in longer sentences, tell a story sequentially, stay on topic, or follow directions. Children often exhibit a combination of symptoms.
During a child’s early years of speech and language development, critical skills are learned, which will be essential to the development of literacy skills such as reading and writing. Some children require supplemental support to ensure that these pre-literacy skills are emerging in the correct manner. A child’s early years are critical to the development of his or her foundation for strong literacy skills.
